How to Use Gear in Steal a Car

Slap loadouts, coils, shop unlock order, and when to equip offense versus defense.

How to Use Gear

Gear is what turns Steal a Car from a polite conveyor tycoon into a slap-contest heist. After you rebirth, the shop unlocks stronger slap tools, movement items (coils / speed), and utilities that change how steals and defenses play out in 8-player servers. This guide covers unlock order, loadout roles, combat habits, and how gear pairs with locks, paints, and rarity targets.

Gear does not replace fundamentals. You still need lock timing from How to Defend, pad priority from the Tier List, and escape paths from How to Steal. Gear makes those fundamentals land more often.

Exact item names and prices change with Turbo Heist patches—always read the live shop. Track retunes on the Updates Hub.

  1. Best available slap — defense and steal both hinge on knockback
  2. Movement coil / speed — shorter steal routes and faster pad returns
  3. Extra utility that helps your playstyle (scout tools, niche combat)
  4. Cosmetics only when the power slots are filled

Spending post-rebirth cash on belt Commons before slap unlocks is a common trap. The multiplier from rebirth already helps income; the slap is what keeps that income from walking away.

Offense loadout — stealing with gear

Goal: enter unlocked base → grab priority pad → leave alive.

  • Equip slap before you cross the doorway
  • Use movement gear to shorten the open-map carry
  • Slap the owner away from your exit, not into a corner trap that blocks you
  • Do not tunnel into a long duel while the lock cooldown returns
  • If knocked, re-grab quickly or abort—ego fights donate the car back

Target priority stays rarity-first (Secret/Divine → Mythical → Legendary → Epic). Gear just raises your success rate on the same targets described in How to Steal.

Defense loadout — holding pads

Goal: keep Mythicals when the lock drops.

  • Stand near the highest-value pad, not the conveyor
  • Slap thieves off the prompt / escape line
  • Re-lock on cooldown the instant the window allows
  • Movement gear helps chase a thief who already picked up your car mid-escape
  • Duo partners: one camps Secret pad, one covers doorway

Full lock timing and recovery habits live in How to Defend. Gear is the muscle behind those habits.

Slap fight fundamentals

Steal a Car combat is about disruption, not ranked arena play:

  • Keep camera on the exit while you slap
  • One clean knockback beats ten panic clicks in the wrong direction
  • Carriers (thieves holding a car) are slower / busier—defenders should exploit that
  • Defenders camping a pad should not chase halfway across the map and leave the Divine naked

Practice in quiet servers before flex lobbies. Input bindings for attack/slap are on the Players Hub (PC click; mobile HUD button).

Gear versus paint and rebirth

Think in layers:

  1. Rebirth — permanent multipliers + shop unlocks (this guide’s gate)
  2. Gear — win the slap and the footrace
  3. Paint — multiply the cars you can actually keep (paint guide)

Painting a Secret you cannot defend is paying Robux for someone else’s income. Buy the slap first.

Gear and scripts

Some scripts fake movement (WalkSpeed, Fly, Noclip) or Instant Prompts. Those carry ban risk and often paint a target on you in contested lobbies. Legitimate shop gear is the safer path on accounts you care about. If you experiment with executors, use throwaways only.

Mid-game gear checklist

  • Rebirthed at least once with shop access
  • Slap upgraded past the free starter
  • Movement item equipped for steal routes
  • Know PC/mobile attack binds (Players)
  • Practice one defend round unlocked on purpose
  • Practice one steal where you slap once and leave

Late-game habits

High-rebirth lobbies mean longer locks and harder slaps on both sides. Adjust:

  • Bait locks more patiently before entering
  • Never leave painted Mythicals unlocked while shopping for the next coil
  • Refresh loadout after patches—new slap tiers can obsolete your old main
  • Re-read Updates when knockback feels different overnight

Common gear mistakes

MistakeFix
Buying cosmetics firstSlap → move → flex
Stealing without slap equippedEquip before the doorway
Chasing thieves across the whole mapRe-secure pads; lock on cooldown
Ignoring mobile HUD bindsDrill controls on Players
Assuming scripts replace gearManual slap skill still wins clean lobbies

Master gear and every unlocked window becomes a fair fight you can win. Buy power before polish, slap with purpose, and let coils turn long map runs into short ones.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Steal a Car questions.

What gear should I buy first in Steal a Car?

After rebirth, buy the best slap available, then a movement coil or speed item. Cosmetics come last. Details are in this guide's unlock order.

How do I unlock better gear?

Rebirth to open higher shop tiers. Read How to Rebirth for prep, multipliers, and what the reset costs.

Is slap gear only for defense?

No. Thieves use slap to clear owners off escape lanes. Defenders use it to knock carriers off pads. Both roles need it—see How to Steal and How to Defend.

Do I need Robux for gear?

Core slap and movement gear is typically purchased with in-game cash after rebirth unlocks. Robux paints are separate—see How to Paint.

Can scripts replace gear?

Some scripts add WalkSpeed, Fly, or Noclip, but they risk bans and still fail against good lock timing. Prefer shop gear on mains; read the Scripts Hub warnings.
